HS Football Week -2

We have had a great week of practice. I am very excited with the progress we have made. We are certainly having a lot of fun and we are also playing great football. Our first test of the season will be this Friday when we head to Lutheran North for a controlled scrimmage.

Theme: Purpose
Acts 17:26b “He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.”

Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Schedule

  • Monday, Aug 8-Practice from 3:30 to 7:00pm (Full Pads)
  • Tuesday, Aug 9-Inner City Football Camp from 3:30 to 7:00pm (Workout) This is required football event
  • Wednesday, Aug 10-Practice from 3:30 to 5:30 (Full Pads)
  • Thursday, Aug 10-Practice from 4:00 to 7:00pm (Half Shell) Moved back to 4 because all coaches have CPR training.
  • Friday, Aug 11-Scrimmage 4:30pm at Lutheran North-Bus Leaves at 3pm

Heat/Trainer
The forecast is for cooler temperatures next week. We do provide Gatorade and water throughout practice and take frequent breaks. It is important for your son to drink a lot of water when he is not at practice. They do not need to be drinking Coke or other drinks including tea. Caffeine is a diuretic and will cause your son to be dehydrated at practice.

One of the top recommend precautions about the heat is to have an athletic trainer on site. We now have that through an agreement with The Methodist Center for Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Paula Douglas is an athletic trainer with the Methodist Center for Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. She will be at most of our practices and games. If an injury occurs athletes should first tell their position coach who will send them to Paula. Should they need additional assistance she can schedule office appointments with Dr. Rand or others in the group.

Parent Meetings
We will have a football parent meeting in the grandstand at 5:15 on Wednesday, August 17. Please make it a priority for at least one parent to attend. We give out a lot of information and if everyone is present it really saves the coaching staff time in the future.

The school wide Parents of Athletes Meeting will be on Monday, August 22 at 7pm. This is a required meeting that will include a presentation from Jim Ater with Proactive Coaching on the role of parents in athletics.

Team Pictures
On Saturday, August 13 we are scheduled to take our team and individual pictures. There is a possibility that this could change because we do not have all of our uniforms back from reconditioning. I hope to be able to tell you the schedule for Saturday by Tuesday.

Inner City Football Camp
On Tuesday, August 9 we will be loading the bus at 4pm as a part of our regular practice and heading into the city to put on a little football camp for those who do not have the same opportunities that we have. We will be working in partnership with the Faith Center, a ministry of Houston's First Baptist Church. As our program grows I would like to build this into a father son event and this year I would like to invite as many dads as possible to attend with the team. Depending on the number of dads we may need some drivers (we will be taking the bus as well). I think we have everything but might need to purchase a few more footballs to give away. We are planning to return to CCS by 7pm.

Forms
We still have several playrs that are missing physical or other forms. We need all forms in before we scrimmage Lutheran North. All the forms (handbook player and parent signature, transportation waiver, and TAPPS acknowledgement of the rules) can be found at: www.cypresschristian.org/athletics/Forms.cfm

Football Booster Club, Sponsorship Opportunities and Season Tickets
I will be sending more information about our booster club, sponsorships and season tickets in the near future. However, you can read more about them and sign up on the website at: www.cypresschristian.org/football/Support.cfm. The money raised through season tickets, booster club memberships and sponsorships is used to pay for a lot of the great things we do as a football program. The things that are supported by the booster club are so important to me that I personally join the Coach's Club each year. You are certainly not required to join but for those with the ability it is a great way to help our program.
