HS Football Week 1

It was a tough hard fought game on Friday night. We were so close to coming away with a big road win to start the season but never got the break we needed down the stretch. I was proud of how hard we played and how we picked each other up. Several players ended up in spots they did not expect and performed very well. This week will also be tough as Northland is coming to CCS but football teams make their biggest improvements between their first and second games so I am expecting to see a lot of progress this week. The best way to get better is to learn from your mistakes and that can be done at the 7AM film session on Monday morning in the field house. Even if your son did not play they can learn a great deal from watching the film.

Season Ticket Holder Tailgate Party
There will be a special tailgate party for the varsity game against Northland from 6:45 to 7:20. Season ticket holders will get a free meal in left field of the baseball diamond. There is still time to purchase season tickets at www.CypressChristian.org/Football/Tickets1.cfm. If you have already ordered your tickets they will be available for pickup at the gate for the Northland game on Friday night.

MS Football Week 1

It was a great first game for the MS. I was excited with how they played together as a team and made big plays. This week both the A team and the B team will get another opportunity as we travel on Tuesday and Thursday. Players will be released early on both days. I will send out the exact time and directions on Monday.

HS Football Week 0

Scrimmage recap

I was very pleased with our scrimmage on Thursday night. We played much better upfront and eliminated a lot of the little mistakes from the first scrimmage. I am sure we will see a lot more progress this week. Brazos Christian is always a great season opener. It is a school very similar to us in many ways. We had some injuries last year but were still able to escape with a 13-0 shutout to start the season. The drive to college station is one of the best road trips of the season and I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday night as we strap up the pads for the first game of the season.

I have 18 tickets to listen to Louis Zamperini speak at Houston’s First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 27 at 7PM. We will start by making the tickets available to seniors and work our way down through the grades. Louis is the subject of the book Unbroken and was both a POW and Olympian. I believe that this will be an incredible event but it will not be G rated. For more information please visit www.houstonsfirst.org/mantoman. If your son is interested please let me know by Tuesday and if we have a large interest I will look into getting more tickets. This event is one example of how we spend some of the booster dollars each year.

Volunteering

Our team mom, Helen Mitchell, will be sending out an email with opportunities to sign up to volunteer. We need your help. We expect each family to sing-up for 2 or 3 things over the course of the season. By signing up first you get your choice of opportunities.

Away Game Travel—Directions to Brazos Christian

Football players do not go home after school on game days. Your son will be feed a meal after school and then we will load the bus and leave. It is our goal to arrive at least two hours before kickoff when playing a road game. Click here for driving directions to Brazos Christian.

School Wide Parent Meeting

This is a required meeting for any parent that will have a son or daughter participating in a sport at CCS during the 2010-2011 school year. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM on Monday night with what I believe will be a great presentation on the Role of Parents in athletics by Jim Ater of Proactive Coaching. Resources will be available for $5. The meeting will also include a presentation from Dr. Rand of Methodist Hospital on injuries as well as important updates to our athletic hand book.

Season Tickets

We have had a lot of people purchase season tickets and I greatly appreciate your support. You can still order yours today at www.CypressChristian.org/Football/Tickets1.cfm Season tickets are good for all home games at any level. 10% of all season ticket sales go to the school benevolence fund and another 10% goes to the general athletic booster account so you are helping more than just football.

Additional Practice Clothing

I will place the additional order for shorts and shirts Monday. If you have not emailed me the additional sizes you would like please do so as soon as possible. MS players will get their clothing this week.

MS Football Week 0

It is time to start playing games. The varsity has had a couple scrimmage opportunities that MS does not get. It will not be perfect this week but it will be an opportunity to have fun, learn and grow as the Warriors take the field for the first time.

HS Football Week -1

We have competed in our first scrimmage. Lutheran North is always a tough scrimmage for us but I was very pleased with where we are at on defense. Offense always takes longer to gel and we have not spent enough time preparing for the blitzing that we see from Lutheran North. It is also a difficult scrimmage because they never have more than a hand full of freshmen and sophomores. This week against Fort Bend Christian we will have a true JV scrimmage which will really help our young players out. This past week we had a great time with our football camp, Travis McGrath shared his talents with the team on Thursday and today we helped the school by moving a lot of mulch in a short time. Click here to read more about the crazy things we have been doing. When we serve together as a team we build bonds that will matter in the fourth quarter, for the rest of life and even for eternity. Being more than a football team is what makes football at Cypress Christian special.

Theme: Building a Foundation
Psalms 18:2a “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.”

Matthew 16:18 “…on this rock I will build my church."

HS Schedule

  • Monday, Aug 15-Practice from 4:00 to 6:15pm (Full Pads)
  • Tuesday, Aug 16- Practice from 4:00 to 6:15pm (Full Pads)
  • Wednesday, Aug 17-Practice from 3:45 to 5:30 (Full Pads) Parent Meeting at 5:15 in the Grandstand
  • Thursday, Aug 18-Scrimmage at home against Fort Bend Christian 7:00pm (Players will stay on campus after school and be feed a meal)
  • Friday, Aug 19-Film from 3:45 to 4:45-Blue and White Night 5:30 to 8pm

Parent Meetings
We will have a football parent meeting in the grandstand at 5:15 on Wednesday, August 17. Please make it a priority for at least one parent to attend. We give out a lot of information and if everyone is present it really saves the coaching staff time in the future. The school wide Parents of Athletes Meeting will be on Monday, August 22 at 7pm. This is a required meeting that will include a presentation from Jim Ater with Proactive Coaching on the role of parents in athletics. As a parent you will not want to miss this event.

Forms
We have almost every physical but are missing other forms. All the forms (handbook player and parent signature, transportation waiver, and TAPPS acknowledgment of the rules) can be found at: www.cypresschristian.org/athletics/Forms.cfm. We need these all turned in as soon as possible to Cindy Wilhite in the Athletic Department.

Season Tickets, Football Booster Club, and Sponsorship Opportunities
As a football parent you get first choice on season tickets if you purchase them prior to Blue and White Night. These tickets are good for all home football games. Seats will be sold on a first come first serve basis starting at Blue and White Night. The money raised through season tickets, booster club memberships and sponsorships is used to pay for a lot of the great things we do as a football program. The things that are supported by the booster club are so important to me that I personally join the Coach's Club each year. You are certainly not required to join but for those with the ability it is a great way to help our program. For more details visit www.cypresschristian.org/football/Support.cfm.

Blue and White Night
The football team will be introduced at Blue and White Night. We are also responsible for helping take down tables and take out trash at the end of the night. This is a great event and always a lot of fun so please make plans to attend. If you want dinner you need to register ahead of time at www.CypressChristian.org/Athletics/Blue-and-White-Night.cfm.

Practice Clothing Additional Order
We are still waiting on some small shirts but other than that your son has received a pair of shorts and a shirt. They will be required to wear those for certain practices, team functions and possibly when we travel. If they would like an additional set or if another member of your family would like an additional set I will be placing a second order on Monday, August 22. Please send me the shirt and/or short size (they can be purchased individually) by Sunday, August 21. The shorts are $15 and the shirts $10.

Movie Shoot-Live For Today
Next week there will be scenes from an independent movie being shot in our Stadium. The filming will take place on Wednesday through Friday from around 9 pm until midnight or later. There will be a need for extras from players to fans in the stands on Friday night. If you are interested you can just stay after Blue and White Night and join in the fun. For more about the film you can go to www.k-tfilms.com.

Team Pictures
A new date for team pictures has not been set.

Uniforms/Laundry
Our uniforms went through a reconditioning process after last season and have still not returned. We will have them for our first game but I am not sure about the scrimmage Thursday. Typically we would also wear our Jersey for Blue and White Night. Players are responsible for washing their own game uniform. We will wash practice equipment at school but a player should take his stuff home if he is interested in getting the same stuff back. We will wash practice pants after Tuesdays practice and practice jerseys after Thursdays practice.

MS Football Week -1

We have great looking bunch of middle school kids playing football this year. I have head great reports from the MS coaches.

HS Football Week -2

We have had a great week of practice. I am very excited with the progress we have made. We are certainly having a lot of fun and we are also playing great football. Our first test of the season will be this Friday when we head to Lutheran North for a controlled scrimmage.

Theme: Purpose
Acts 17:26b “He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.”

Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Schedule

  • Monday, Aug 8-Practice from 3:30 to 7:00pm (Full Pads)
  • Tuesday, Aug 9-Inner City Football Camp from 3:30 to 7:00pm (Workout) This is required football event
  • Wednesday, Aug 10-Practice from 3:30 to 5:30 (Full Pads)
  • Thursday, Aug 10-Practice from 4:00 to 7:00pm (Half Shell) Moved back to 4 because all coaches have CPR training.
  • Friday, Aug 11-Scrimmage 4:30pm at Lutheran North-Bus Leaves at 3pm

Heat/Trainer
The forecast is for cooler temperatures next week. We do provide Gatorade and water throughout practice and take frequent breaks. It is important for your son to drink a lot of water when he is not at practice. They do not need to be drinking Coke or other drinks including tea. Caffeine is a diuretic and will cause your son to be dehydrated at practice.

One of the top recommend precautions about the heat is to have an athletic trainer on site. We now have that through an agreement with The Methodist Center for Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Paula Douglas is an athletic trainer with the Methodist Center for Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. She will be at most of our practices and games. If an injury occurs athletes should first tell their position coach who will send them to Paula. Should they need additional assistance she can schedule office appointments with Dr. Rand or others in the group.

Team Pictures
On Saturday, August 13 we are scheduled to take our team and individual pictures. There is a possibility that this could change because we do not have all of our uniforms back from reconditioning. I hope to be able to tell you the schedule for Saturday by Tuesday.

Inner City Football Camp
On Tuesday, August 9 we will be loading the bus at 4pm as a part of our regular practice and heading into the city to put on a little football camp for those who do not have the same opportunities that we have. We will be working in partnership with the Faith Center, a ministry of Houston's First Baptist Church. As our program grows I would like to build this into a father son event and this year I would like to invite as many dads as possible to attend with the team. Depending on the number of dads we may need some drivers (we will be taking the bus as well). I think we have everything but might need to purchase a few more footballs to give away. We are planning to return to CCS by 7pm.

Forms
We still have several playrs that are missing physical or other forms. We need all forms in before we scrimmage Lutheran North. All the forms (handbook player and parent signature, transportation waiver, and TAPPS acknowledgement of the rules) can be found at: www.cypresschristian.org/athletics/Forms.cfm

Football Booster Club, Sponsorship Opportunities and Season Tickets
I will be sending more information about our booster club, sponsorships and season tickets in the near future. However, you can read more about them and sign up on the website at: www.cypresschristian.org/football/Support.cfm. You are certainly not required to join but for those with the ability it is a great way to help our program.

MS Foot ball Week -2

I am looking forward to seeing a big middle school team take the field on Monday. We have had a great week of high school practice and I think that will trickle down to the middle school team as we share the practice field and work to build bonds and relationships between the two teams.

MS Schedule

  • Monday, Aug 8-Practice from 5:00 to 7:00pm (Helmet) Equipment pickup starting at 4.
  • Tuesday, Aug 9-Practice from 6:00 to 8:00pm (Half Shell)
  • Wednesday, Aug 10-Practice from 3:30 to 5:30pm (Full Pads)
  • Thursday, Aug 10-Practice from 4:00 to 5:30pm (Full Pads) Moved back to 4 because all coaches have CPR training.
  • Friday, Aug 11-Practice from 3:30 to 5:30pm (Full Pads)

If your son has not turned in his physical he should bring it to practice. All the forms (handbook player and parent signature, transportation waiver, and TAPPS acknowledgement of the rules) that need to be turned in are located on the website at: www.cypresschristian.org/athletics/Forms.cfm

Football Booster Club, Sponsorship Opportunities and Season Tickets

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

We have had a great three days of practice. Our new practice segment called Crazy Love has helped to build a whole new level of team unity and fun. Tomorrow morning we will be shooting water balloons off the top of the grandstand at live targets (according to the warning label this is dangerous so we will wear our helmets). You might ask what this has to do with football. Football, like life, is about relationships. We have worked very hard in the heat but we have also laughed as we played duck duck goose, raced go-carts, played steal the bacon, shared stories, talked about the role models in our lives, learned crazy facts about each other and have strove to glorify God in all that we have done. Building men is a process and I am excited about what is ahead.

Schedule
Thursday 8 to 10 AM Workout Clothing
Thursday 3:30 to 6:15 PM Full Pads (We will get out early so coaches have an opportunity to attend Inside Out Coaching)
Friday 8 to 10 AM Workout Clothing
Friday 3:30 to 7 PM Full Pads
Saturday 8 to 10AM Intersquad scrimmage - Full Pads

Inner City Football Camp
On Tuesday, August 9 we will be loading the bus at 4pm as a part of our regular practice and heading into the city to put on a little football camp for those who do not have the same opportunities that we have. We will be working in partnership with the Faith Center, a ministry of Houston's First Baptist Church. We will simply be hanging out with kids, throwing the football around and giving out hot dogs and drinks. As our program grows I would like to build this into a father son event and this year I would like to invite as many dad's as possible to attend with the team. We are planning to return to CCS by 7pm. This is not an optional event for players as I believe it will be a great team building experience. We are going to need a few grills, a truck to transport them, a lot of hot dogs, drinks and would like to purchase some footballs to leave behind. If you are interested in helping out please let me know.

Forms
We have a good number of players that do not have a physical on file with the school. I need that taken care of right away. There are also several other forms (handbook player and parent signature, transportation waiver, and TAPPS acknowledgment of the rules) that will eventually need to be filled out. All the forms can be found at: www.CypressChristian.org/Athletics/Forms.cfm

InSideOut Coaching
FCA and the Foundry Church are bringing Joe Ehrmann (Baltimore Colt All-Pro Defensive Linemen), to the Texas Tornados Practice Facility on August 4, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm, $10 to attend and $15 for book purchase. I use a lot of material from Joe Ehrmann as a coach and even if the only coaching you do is with your own kids I strongly recommend this two hour seminar centered on his new book, InSideOut Coaching. For more information and to register for the event please visit www.dierkerschamps.com. I have asked my entire coaching staff to attend this event.
