Warrior Football Week 9

When we take the field I also ask your son to play verses his best self. It should not matter who or how good the opponent is we are simply looking to play the best football we can play as a collective group of individuals. We continue to play better each week in every phase of a football game. It is hard to play any team twice but we were able to dominate Bay Area for a second time.

This week will be a tough test as Evadale comes to Cypress. They have had tremendous success since we last played them in 2006 but I do not think they have seen a team as talented as ours.

Weekly Theme – Consistency

Malachi 3:6 “’I the Lord do not change,’…declares the Lord”

Week 9 Schedule
Monday 7:00 AM Film in field house
Monday 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Wednesday 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Half Shell)
Thursday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell)
Friday Game at home against Evadale at 7:30 PM

Game film from Bay Area and scout film for Evadale is on the internet. It only takes a few minutes to watch so please encourage your son to do that after homework and before video games.

Thanksgiving Practices
We are a favorite to make it to the semi final round which would be played the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We would not practice on Thanksgiving Day but will practice throughout the rest of the week. I am tentatively planning to practice from 8:30 to 11:00 AM Monday through Wednesday and from 3:30 to 5:30 on Friday. The game that Saturday would most likely be played in the College Station area.

Warrior Football Week8

It was a great win at Faith West. Many people had picked them to win our district. We did some very good things and also have a lot that we can learn from. However, the learning is always easier after a big road win.

Weekly Theme – Grace
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourself, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

HS Week 8 Schedule

Tuesday 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Wednesday 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Full Pads)
Thursday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell)
Friday Game at Bay Area at 7:30 PM bus leaves at 3:30 pm

We will be watching film in the morning at 7AM. We will only go out in helmet and then watch film as part of practice so it will be a little different week.

Middle School Information
We have reached the end of another MS season. I hope you have enjoyed the experience. Every season is filled with ups and downs, positives and negatives, challenges and opportunities and this season was no different. I do welcome your feedback as we continue to build the football program at CCS.

Equipment Turn In
B team players will turn in their equipment on Wednesday 10/20 right after school at the field house to Coach Warren. A team players will turn in their equipment on Monday 10/25 right after school at the field house to Coach Warren.

Each player should turn in the following
Helmet
Shoulder pads
Practice pants
Practice jersey
Two game jerseys
Game pants
Your son should have purchased his own leg pads but if not those should be turned in as well. Some players did use their own equipment and that does not need to be turned in to the school.

Varsity Practice
8th grades are welcome to attend varsity practice at the conclusion of their season. They cannot dress for games but it is a great opportunity for them to learn and experience what high school football will be like. We have had several players take advantage of this in the past. If your son would like to do this they can keep their equipment and turn it in to me the following week.

Warriro Football Week 7

It will be homecoming again this Friday as we travel to Faith West. A victory will put us in great shape to return to the playoffs for the third straight year and give us a commanding district lead. Faith West will be a very good opponent and this should be an exciting game. I do recommend that you consider bringing your own chair and bug spray to the game.

This can be a tough part of the season so please encourage your son to persevere and continue to work hard. We have great potential as a football team that we have not yet reached and we want to continue to close the gap until the season ends.

Weekly Theme – Perseverance
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Middle School
It is hard to believe that the middle school season is coming to an end. Every football season is filled with ups and downs. There have been great plays and disappointment but I have seen steady growth and I am excited about the young football players that we have in the program. Encourage your son to finish strong and persevere to the end.

Football Week 6

It was a great homecoming night and I want to thank everyone that helped in one way or another to make the night possible. It takes a lot of volunteers to pull off a football game and you are always appreciated.
We are starting to see the gap closing in a lot of areas. Certainly as a team but also as many young players continue to step up and get better. Bay area was held to negative yards on the night and the offense put up the second most points in a game since I became the head coach. We are looking more and more like we will be playing our best football at the end of the season which is exactly how it needs to happen.

We will have two weeks to prepare for Faith West who lost to Brazos Christian last Friday and will play at Bay Area this Friday. We have a great opportunity to win our district if we continue to focus on improving both individually and as a team. No matter who the opponent is we are simply looking to close the gap and be the best football team we can be every night.

Weekly Theme – Humility (Yes this one is worth doing twice)
Romans 12:3 “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.”

HS Week 6 Schedule
Monday 3:45 to 6:10 PM (JV - Full Pads) (Varsity – shirt, shorts and cleats) We will all watch film for the last hour of practice.

Wednesday 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Full Pads)
Thursday Varsity Practice 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell)
Thursday JV Game at Fort Bend at 6:00 PM bus leaves at 4 PM

JV Team
This is the last JV game on the schedule I am working to find one more.

Football For Moms
Saturday, October 9 from 1 to 3 PM. It will be on campus but I am not sure of the actual room yet. I will go over the basics of the game of football, show you some game film and answer questions. If you feel you are a little more advanced I would suggest you come a little late, maybe 1:30 or 2.

Middle School Recap

While the A team came up short Coach Warren was really pleased with the progress the team is making. It is really important in MS to have long term goals and we want to show constant improvement. The B team did pick up a win up in Huntsville and continues to show improvement as well.

Warrior Football Week 5

It is good to start playing schools our size again. We gained a little toughness the last few weeks that I think is really going to show in the weeks to come. We certainly delivered some hits on Friday night, won the battle in the trenches and had so few injuries that Coach Van Pelt actually watched the game. I hope this trend continues.

There are a lot of distractions with Homecoming. Please remind your son that need to continue to study and that football is the reason for everything else.

We have had a couple good weeks of practice but we can still get better. It takes 44 players to have an effective practice so we need everyone if we are going to get better as a football team. While we started the football season with 51 players on the roster we have never had more than 43 dressed and participating at a single practice.

Weekly Theme - Humility
Romans 15:5-6 “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

High School Week 5 Schedule
Monday 7:00 AM film in the field house
Monday 3:45 to 6:10 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday 3:45 to 6:10 PM (Full Pads) – JV players will go to 6:20
Wednesday 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Half Shell)
Thursday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell) JV Game at Home against Fort Bend at 6:00 PM
Friday 7:30 Home Game against Bay Area

JV Team
On Tuesday we are planning to release the varsity players early and keep the JV players for an extra ten minutes to get a little more organized for the JV game on Thursday. The JV teams we play actually practice together most of the week. We don’t have enough players to do that and just need a few extra minutes to get organized before this Thursdays game.

Homecoming
Make plans to come out and tail gate before the game. The Junior and Senior classes will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs along with other food as a class fundraiser.

Football For Moms
We will have a Football for Moms class. I am still working on the date and will be sending out more information.

Football Media Guide
You will be able to pick up a copy of the 2010 Football Media Guide on Friday night at homecoming for just $3. It is already available on the website.

Film
Scout film for this week and the game film from Canyon Creek are on the internet. Please have your son take a few minutes to watch them. Even if they did not play in the game they can learn a lot by watching film with the coaches on Monday morning in the field house.

Middle School information
The A team bounced back to get a great win last Thursday. I enjoyed watching numerous players make some big time plays. From a distance I have been able to see steady improvement and that is exactly what MS football needs to be about. The B team will travel up to the Conroe area to play a new school in Alpha Omega and the A team will get to play on Field Turf at Fort Bend this week. Your son does not need anything special to play on Field Turf. They will use regular cleats just like they do on grass.

Middle School Week 5 Schedule
Monday – 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads) (A team players only)
Tuesday—MS B game at Alpha Omega at 5:00 PM the bus will leave at 2:45 PM
Wednesday – 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Half Shell)
Thursday – MS A game at Fort Bend Baptist at 4:30 PM the bus will leave at 3:00 PM

Warrior Football Week 4

There is a difficult line between providing a challenge that forces us to compete and destroying our confidence. Our confidence has certainly taken a beating in the last 3 weeks so please encourage your son to stick with it and focus on team goals as we approach district play. If you look at schedules and scores across the state you will find that very few teams have played a schedule near as difficult as ours. Here are a few scores from the last couple weeks that might provide a little insight:

  • Fort Bend Baptist 38 Bay Area 0
  • Westbury 29 Bullard Brook Hill 18 (I watched this game and Brook Hill does have key injuries but it was 29 – 6 when I left in the 3rd quarter)
  • Pantego 35 Canyon Creek Richardson 6 (Pantego is in our division and defeated Bay Area in the playoffs last year)
  • Faith West 47 Bryan St. Joseph 6
  • Brazos Christian 31 Bryan St. Joseph 7
  • Woodlands Christian 34 Faith West 23

Weekly Theme - Rebuilding
Nehemiah 2:20 “I answered them by saying, ‘The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding…’”

Thursday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell)
Friday 7:30 Home Game against Canyon Creek Richardson

JV Game
Brazos Christian has had too many injuries to play a JV game this year. I am working to replace the game and have a few options. The next JV game will be on Thursday 9/30 against Fort Bend Baptist.

Middle School Week 4 Schedule

Monday – 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads)
Wednesday – 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Half Shell)

Practice Clothing
Your son should have his practice clothing, if not he needs to see the coaches after practice.

Friday Night is Elementary Night
The first 100 elementary kids to enter with a paying adult (season tickets count) will get a free t-shirt. The junior pep squad will perform and we will have some special events for elementary kids at half time.

Homecoming
Make plans to come out and tail gate before the game.

Football For Moms
Last year I did a 2 hour class for moms that went over the basics of football and I am planning to offer it again this year if there is enough interest. We will go over the basics and let you see it on film so you have a better understanding when you watch your son play. It will either be on a Saturday afternoon or a Thursday evening. If you are interested please send me an email so I can get an idea of a head count.

Warrior Football Week 3

“A difficult time can be more readily endured if we retain the conviction that our existence holds a purpose - a cause to pursue, a person to love, a goal to achieve.” –John Maxwell

We did some great things on defense and I know the potential that we have on offense. We are closing the gap as a team and there were certainly some great individual efforts like Dan Crozier at outside linebacker, Michael Boyd, Troy Mason and Ben Bennett playing corner, our defensive line and many players on special teams.

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:30-31

Weekly Theme - Passion
Revelation 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

High School Week 2 Schedule
Monday 7:00 AM film in the field house
Monday 3:45 to 6:10 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday 3:45 to 6:10 PM (Full Pads)

Friday- Away Game against Second Baptist at 6:00 PM Bus leaves at 3:30 (There is no school but your son should not stay up late on Thursday or sleep in past 9 am on Friday. They should be at school at 3 and will NOT be feed a pregame meal this week.)

JV Roster
There may be a few changes to the JV roster depending on injuries and academics. If your son played in the last game he should plan to play in this one. We will let the players know for sure on Tuesday.

Team Pictures
There will be pictures on Wednesday rain or shine. Players will need to wear their blue uniform.

Practice Clothing
Almost everyone got a shirt last week and the shorts are in. We will begin to give them out to the payers on Monday.

Game Film
Both the Westbury game and scout film for Second Baptist is on the website for your son to watch. I would prefer that they do this as opposed to video games and TV. It really does help them perform at a higher level.

Middle School Week 3 Information

The rain made for a tough week but we should have clear skies and an opportunity to play the first MS B game. While I know we would like to play a game every week the more practice time younger players get the better they are in the long run. So I hope to see a great week of practice for the A team.

Middle School Week 2 Schedule
Monday – 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads) A team players only
Tuesday – B team game at 4:30 PM at Salem Trinity. Bus leaves at 3:00PM
Wednesday – 3:45 to 5:30 PM Pictures
Thursday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads)

Pictures
There will be pictures on Wednesday rain or shine. Players will need to wear their blue uniform.

Game Pictures
I know that many of you take pictures during the middle school games. I could use more for the website so if you have some good ones please send them to me.

Practice Clothing
We did not get practice clothing handed out last week with the weather but we will do it on Monday at the end of practice.

Uniforms
There are way too many middle school uniforms in the locker room. They are to be taken home after every game, washed and stored at home, not wedged in lockers or left on sweaty shoulder pads. This shortens the life of the uniform and the shoulder pad.

Warrior Football Week 2

“We play with enthusiasm and recklessness. We aren’t afraid to lose. If we win, great. But win or lose, it is the competition that gives us pleasure.” -- Joe Paterno

Friday was a tough night but I know we will learn from it and be better for it. Our schedule is tough for a reason. We want to be the best team we can be not simply have a great record.

“Losing is only temporary and not all encompassing. You must simply study it, learn from it, and try hard not to lose the same way again. Then you must have the self-control to forget about it.” -- John Wooden

Weekly Theme - Overcoming Adversity
Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

Saturday – JV Game at Brazos Christian-This is still tentative and may be moved to later in the season. As soon as I know I will let you know.

Tuesday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads) A team players only
Tuesday – B team game at 5:00 PM at home (We will wear white for this game)
Wednesday – 3:45 to 5:30 PM Pictures
Thursday – A team game at Bay Area at 5:00 PM Bus leaves at 2:45

High School Labor Day Practice
While there is no penalty for missing the practice on Labor Day it is important for our preparation for Friday. Most of our mistakes on Friday were mental and repetition in practice is the only way to address those mistakes. I simply ask that if your family is in town that your son makes an effort to attend practice.

Middle School Labor Day Practice
While there is no penalty for missing the practice on Labor Day it will make a big difference for the first B team game on Tuesday. A team only players will have Monday off.

Practice Clothing
I have the shirts and most of the shorts. We will begin to give them out to the payers on Monday. I think the shirts were worth the wait this year and the HS shorts have pockets. Middle School clothing will be given out on Wednesday.

Booster Club
You can still join the booster club and get one of those replica jerseys that several of our fans were wearing on Friday night. www.CypressChristian.org/Football/Football-Booster-Club.cfm

Warrior Football Week 1

It was a great start to the football season with both the varsity and MS programs picking up wins. I was very pleased with the speed at which we played the game, our effort and how we hit. We certainly have things to work on and improve and most football teams make their biggest improvements between their first and second games.

Coach Gentry is a little sore but was ready to get back in the game. He was at our meeting and back to work Saturday morning.

Weekly Theme - Unity
Romans 15:5-6 “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Thursday, September 2-3:45 to 5:30 PM (Full Pads)

Game Film for High School
We will watch game film as a team starting at 7 AM in the field house. Brazos Christian game film will be up on our website later today. Scout film for Northland has already been uploaded to the website for your son to watch.

Uniforms
I have had to pick up some nice uniforms off the floor and out of lockers the last two weeks. Please make sure your son is taking care of his responsibility to be a good steward of his uniform.

Team Pictures
We will take team pictures right after school on Wednesday. We will wear our home (blue) game uniform for the pictures. Once the pictures are done we will practice until 5:30. Because the MS does not have a game this week HS will go first. Pictures always take longer than expected but if they get done early they will practice until the regular end of practice at 5:30.

Labor Day Practice
We will have high school and middle school B team practice in the afternoon on Monday, September 1 starting at 3:45 like a regular after school practice. A team only players will have Monday off.

You Can Do One More

One of my favorite football traditions at Cypress Christian took place today. We push the team to the limit to see just what they are made of because I believe you can always do one more. Life will be much tougher than an individual football practice at some point for everyone of our players they will be at a point where they simply want to quit. It is my desire that they will be prepared for that day because they will have a mindset that no matter how tough things get they can stand on the rock of Christ Jesus and do one more. Players kept coming back to the line tonight committed to do one more time and time again until we as coaches finally walk the line and shake each players hand with words of encouragement about the season. We cannot control where we start but we can control how we finish and today was a great day to see us finish as a team. Today was the end of the beginning of the 2010 season. While we are all excited about what is in store it was also an emotional day as we close a chapter of our lives and look to the next.
