HS Football Week 5

We always play well in Dallas and this year was certainly no exception. It was a great football game with plenty of excitement in every area of the game. Playing the tough schedule will pay off as we enter district play this week at Bay Area. They are a better team than last year and have a new head coach. Their new coach, Chris Jones, is interested in more than football like we are and they have organized an event called Overtime Worship that will take place after the game in the gym. I have told Coach Jones that we will stay for the event which will last about 30 minutes and I want to encourage as many parents and fans to stay as well.

MS Football Week 5

The only way to get better is by having good practices. While I wish we would have been able to play the B game last week, the extra practice time for everyone is a very positive thing in the long run. Western Academy should be a team our size and Faith West has always been a great game for the A team. It should be another exciting week of football.

Passion

HS Football Week 4

We have completed the toughest part of our schedule. I am really pleased with the progress we have made and the way that we battled the last two games against much bigger schools. We are getting closer to being healthy and when I look other scores from our district combined with the level of teams they are playing I am excited about where we will be in a few weeks.

Rebuilding is one of my favorite themes as we talk about doing the impossible in man’s eyes. Nehemiah is a great lesson in answering the call and stepping out in faith knowing that God uses the available to accomplish His purposes.

Weekly Theme - Rebuilding
Nehemiah 2:20 “I answered them by saying, ‘The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding…’”

Week-4 HS Schedule

  • Friday, September 23-At Canyon Creek in Dallas at 7:30 PM (Bus Leaves at 11:30)

We need to be on the road at 11:30. We will have our pregame meal at the hotel. After the meal we will dress at the hotel and then head to the stadium for kickoff.

The B team got into the win column but it was a tough loss for the A team. I hope that loss for the A team results in a determination to work harder and that the win for the B team gives them a feeling of accomplishment for the hard work they have been putting in. The B team will play against St. John’s this Tuesday while the A team has a bye week.

HS Football Week 3

Last week we spent a lot of time talking about unity. We had a great team experience in going to see “7 Days in Utopia” and really played great football games on both Thursday and Friday night. I am really excited about the progress we are making. I was talking to an old high school friend today that made the comment to me that he was sorry we are having a rough start to the season. When I corrected him and said, “no, it has been a great year so far” he was even more confused. The goal is a lot bigger than the score of the game and we are making some great strides in the areas that matter most. I also strongly believe that our very tough non-district schedule will once again pay great dividends when we get into the part of the season that really matters.

We will talk about adversity this week and something always happens. The veterans always ask to leave this theme off but adversity is always a part of life, especially one that is sold out for Jesus Christ.

Weekly Theme - Overcoming Adversity

Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

Week-3 HS Schedule

Monday, September 12-7:00 AM Film and Practice 3:45 to 6:25 PM (Full Pads)

Wednesday, September 14-3:45 to 5:30 PM (Full Pads)

Thursday, September 15-3:45 to 5:00 PM (Half Shell)

Friday, September 16-Second Baptist at Home at 7:30 PM

JV Game

We are playing the JV game this week. Kickoff has been moved back to 6:30PM at St. Pius X. St. Pius X is a much bigger team but we will be playing there freshmen team. JV players will have an opportunity to do homework after school. Click here for directions to St. Pius X.

Dallas Travel

We have several families that have not yet responded to Mrs. Mitchell’s email about travel next week. We need to know if your son will be staying with you and if they will be coming home on the bus. We will also need some drivers to free up space on the bus. We are planning to leave school at 11:30AM.

Grades

The first grade check is on Tuesday. If your son gets a progress report for a failing grade they will not be eligible to play in any games this week, including those on Tuesday.

Uniforms

If your son has a name on the back of his blue jersey that is not his I will need that jersey back this week and will be able to give him a brand new jersey.

MS Football Week 3

The A team continued to roll last week and the B team showed a lot of improvement. I enjoyed being able to watch parts of both games from the sideline. Salem-Trinity is always a tough test but I think we are up to the challenge this week.

HS Football Week 2

Labor Day

We will be watching film at 2PM in the field house and then leaving at 3:30 to go see Seven Days in Utopia at 3:55 at the AMC Willowbrook, http://sevendaysinutopia.com. The movie will cost $7.50 and players may choose to eat out after the movie at 6PM. Parents and family members are welcome to attend the movie.

It was a tough week but the reality is we are in much the same place we were last year at this time. We play a tough schedule but it will pay off in the end if we continue to work hard and play for a greater purpose. Seven Days in Utopia is a movie about golf but in a lot of ways it mirrors just where we are at as a team. I believe that it falls in line with our philosophy of building men and will be a great event. I understand that it is a holiday but I would like everyone to attend the film session and the movie if possible.

Dallas Travel

Our team mom sent out an email about our Dallas trip on September 23. The team will spend the night and come back on Saturday. It is preferred that players stay with their parents but if that is not possible we need to know so that we can make other arrangements. The bus will travel back to school on Saturday. We barely fit on the bus so if you are planning to leave early for the game we could use some drivers.

MS Football Week 2

The A team is off to a great start and should get a good test from Northland on Thursday. The B team started off with a tough first game but I am sure we will see improvement this week. There will be no practice on Labor Day for the MS teams.
