Warrior Football Week 5

It is good to start playing schools our size again. We gained a little toughness the last few weeks that I think is really going to show in the weeks to come. We certainly delivered some hits on Friday night, won the battle in the trenches and had so few injuries that Coach Van Pelt actually watched the game. I hope this trend continues.

There are a lot of distractions with Homecoming. Please remind your son that need to continue to study and that football is the reason for everything else.

We have had a couple good weeks of practice but we can still get better. It takes 44 players to have an effective practice so we need everyone if we are going to get better as a football team. While we started the football season with 51 players on the roster we have never had more than 43 dressed and participating at a single practice.

Weekly Theme - Humility
Romans 15:5-6 “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

High School Week 5 Schedule
Monday 7:00 AM film in the field house
Monday 3:45 to 6:10 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday 3:45 to 6:10 PM (Full Pads) – JV players will go to 6:20
Wednesday 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Half Shell)
Thursday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell) JV Game at Home against Fort Bend at 6:00 PM
Friday 7:30 Home Game against Bay Area

JV Team
On Tuesday we are planning to release the varsity players early and keep the JV players for an extra ten minutes to get a little more organized for the JV game on Thursday. The JV teams we play actually practice together most of the week. We don’t have enough players to do that and just need a few extra minutes to get organized before this Thursdays game.

Homecoming
Make plans to come out and tail gate before the game. The Junior and Senior classes will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs along with other food as a class fundraiser.

Football For Moms
We will have a Football for Moms class. I am still working on the date and will be sending out more information.

Football Media Guide
You will be able to pick up a copy of the 2010 Football Media Guide on Friday night at homecoming for just $3. It is already available on the website.

Film
Scout film for this week and the game film from Canyon Creek are on the internet. Please have your son take a few minutes to watch them. Even if they did not play in the game they can learn a lot by watching film with the coaches on Monday morning in the field house.

Middle School information
The A team bounced back to get a great win last Thursday. I enjoyed watching numerous players make some big time plays. From a distance I have been able to see steady improvement and that is exactly what MS football needs to be about. The B team will travel up to the Conroe area to play a new school in Alpha Omega and the A team will get to play on Field Turf at Fort Bend this week. Your son does not need anything special to play on Field Turf. They will use regular cleats just like they do on grass.

Middle School Week 5 Schedule
Monday – 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads) (A team players only)
Tuesday—MS B game at Alpha Omega at 5:00 PM the bus will leave at 2:45 PM
Wednesday – 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Half Shell)
Thursday – MS A game at Fort Bend Baptist at 4:30 PM the bus will leave at 3:00 PM

Warrior Football Week 4

There is a difficult line between providing a challenge that forces us to compete and destroying our confidence. Our confidence has certainly taken a beating in the last 3 weeks so please encourage your son to stick with it and focus on team goals as we approach district play. If you look at schedules and scores across the state you will find that very few teams have played a schedule near as difficult as ours. Here are a few scores from the last couple weeks that might provide a little insight:

  • Fort Bend Baptist 38 Bay Area 0
  • Westbury 29 Bullard Brook Hill 18 (I watched this game and Brook Hill does have key injuries but it was 29 – 6 when I left in the 3rd quarter)
  • Pantego 35 Canyon Creek Richardson 6 (Pantego is in our division and defeated Bay Area in the playoffs last year)
  • Faith West 47 Bryan St. Joseph 6
  • Brazos Christian 31 Bryan St. Joseph 7
  • Woodlands Christian 34 Faith West 23

Weekly Theme - Rebuilding
Nehemiah 2:20 “I answered them by saying, ‘The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding…’”

Thursday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell)
Friday 7:30 Home Game against Canyon Creek Richardson

JV Game
Brazos Christian has had too many injuries to play a JV game this year. I am working to replace the game and have a few options. The next JV game will be on Thursday 9/30 against Fort Bend Baptist.

Middle School Week 4 Schedule

Monday – 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads)
Wednesday – 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Half Shell)
Thursday – Two Home Games MS B at 4:00 PM against St. Cecilia and MS A against Salem Trinity at 6:00 PM

Practice Clothing
Your son should have his practice clothing, if not he needs to see the coaches after practice.

Friday Night is Elementary Night
The first 100 elementary kids to enter with a paying adult (season tickets count) will get a free t-shirt. The junior pep squad will perform and we will have some special events for elementary kids at half time.

Homecoming
Make plans to come out and tail gate before the game.

Football For Moms
Last year I did a 2 hour class for moms that went over the basics of football and I am planning to offer it again this year if there is enough interest. We will go over the basics and let you see it on film so you have a better understanding when you watch your son play. It will either be on a Saturday afternoon or a Thursday evening. If you are interested please send me an email so I can get an idea of a head count.

Warrior Football Week 3

“A difficult time can be more readily endured if we retain the conviction that our existence holds a purpose - a cause to pursue, a person to love, a goal to achieve.” –John Maxwell

We did some great things on defense and I know the potential that we have on offense. We are closing the gap as a team and there were certainly some great individual efforts like Dan Crozier at outside linebacker, Michael Boyd, Troy Mason and Ben Bennett playing corner, our defensive line and many players on special teams.

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:30-31

Weekly Theme - Passion
Revelation 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

High School Week 2 Schedule
Monday 7:00 AM film in the field house
Monday 3:45 to 6:10 PM (Full Pads)

JV Roster
There may be a few changes to the JV roster depending on injuries and academics. If your son played in the last game he should plan to play in this one. We will let the players know for sure on Tuesday.

Team Pictures
There will be pictures on Wednesday rain or shine. Players will need to wear their blue uniform.

Practice Clothing
Almost everyone got a shirt last week and the shorts are in. We will begin to give them out to the payers on Monday.

Game Film
Both the Westbury game and scout film for Second Baptist is on the website for your son to watch. I would prefer that they do this as opposed to video games and TV. It really does help them perform at a higher level.

Middle School Week 3 Information

The rain made for a tough week but we should have clear skies and an opportunity to play the first MS B game. While I know we would like to play a game every week the more practice time younger players get the better they are in the long run. So I hope to see a great week of practice for the A team.

Middle School Week 2 Schedule
Monday – 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads) A team players only
Tuesday – B team game at 4:30 PM at Salem Trinity. Bus leaves at 3:00PM
Wednesday – 3:45 to 5:30 PM Pictures
Thursday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads)

Pictures
There will be pictures on Wednesday rain or shine. Players will need to wear their blue uniform.

Game Pictures
I know that many of you take pictures during the middle school games. I could use more for the website so if you have some good ones please send them to me.

Practice Clothing
We did not get practice clothing handed out last week with the weather but we will do it on Monday at the end of practice.

Uniforms
There are way too many middle school uniforms in the locker room. They are to be taken home after every game, washed and stored at home, not wedged in lockers or left on sweaty shoulder pads. This shortens the life of the uniform and the shoulder pad.

Warrior Football Week 2

“We play with enthusiasm and recklessness. We aren’t afraid to lose. If we win, great. But win or lose, it is the competition that gives us pleasure.” -- Joe Paterno

Friday was a tough night but I know we will learn from it and be better for it. Our schedule is tough for a reason. We want to be the best team we can be not simply have a great record.

“Losing is only temporary and not all encompassing. You must simply study it, learn from it, and try hard not to lose the same way again. Then you must have the self-control to forget about it.” -- John Wooden

Weekly Theme - Overcoming Adversity
Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

Friday- Away Game against Westbury Christian at 7:00 PM Bus leaves at 3:50
Saturday – JV Game at Brazos Christian-This is still tentative and may be moved to later in the season. As soon as I know I will let you know.

Tuesday – 3:45 to 5:45 PM (Full Pads) A team players only

Wednesday – 3:45 to 5:30 PM Pictures
Thursday – A team game at Bay Area at 5:00 PM Bus leaves at 2:45

High School Labor Day Practice
While there is no penalty for missing the practice on Labor Day it is important for our preparation for Friday. Most of our mistakes on Friday were mental and repetition in practice is the only way to address those mistakes. I simply ask that if your family is in town that your son makes an effort to attend practice.

Middle School Labor Day Practice
While there is no penalty for missing the practice on Labor Day it will make a big difference for the first B team game on Tuesday. A team only players will have Monday off.

Practice Clothing
I have the shirts and most of the shorts. We will begin to give them out to the payers on Monday. I think the shirts were worth the wait this year and the HS shorts have pockets. Middle School clothing will be given out on Wednesday.

Booster Club
You can still join the booster club and get one of those replica jerseys that several of our fans were wearing on Friday night. www.CypressChristian.org/Football/Football-Booster-Club.cfm
