Football Banquet/Survey/Interviews

Equipment
I am still missing 11 pairs of game pants and 26 jerseys. The missing game uniforms at this point would cost close to $3,000 to replace. Please have you son turn in his equipment this week if he has not done so already. While seniors will be able to keep their blue uniform I still need them to turn them in first.

Fall Sports Banquet
The HS Fall Sports banquet will be Monday, January 3 at 7pm. While the dress code for this event has become pretty casual I would prefer that your son at least dress in chapel day attire.

Survey
If your son has not yet finished the survey you can now fill it out on line. Please encourage them to provide details. I added one for parents as well if you are interested. I am the only one that will see and use this information. The online versions of the survey can be found at the following link: www.cypresschristian.org/football/End-of-Season-Survey.cfm

Player Interviews
Any time this week is a great opportunity to have an end of season interview. They usually take about 15 minutes. Have your son just come to my office in the administration building. This process really helps us to build the program and gauge where we are at as we plan for the future.

End of Season Party
We will have our annual end of season party on January 23. We will be watching the AFC/NFC Championship games, our own highlight film and eating wings. We have not set a time yet but it will probably start around 3 or 4.

Off Season
I meet with Coach Fields today and we are putting together an off season program that will start in early January. TAPPS allows for a 1 hour workout right before or after school in the off season. Our first choice would be right after school from Monday to Thursday. We will provide more details in the future.

2011 Season
Spring football will start May 9 with our spring game on Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. The first fall practice for the 2011 season will be on August 1.

Season's End

I always try to make the last theme of the year - Finish. I admittedly was trying to make it one more week. I was very proud of how we finished as a team last Saturday. Most teams would have quit but we continued to fight. I hope your son learns to never give up and to always compete to the fullest in the present because you never know what will happen in the future.

I love this team because of the investment they have made in the lives of everyone on the team. I would choose the trip home with this team after a defeat than going on with any other team. It is much more than a game it is about relationships as we imperfectly follow Christ. That journey did not end in Georgetown but will continue on until we can all say 2 Timothy 4:7 and know it to be true in our lives like it was true for Paul.

Weekly Theme – Finish
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Thanks for a great season, and I am looking forward to a reunion in 10 to 15 years where we hear just how successful the season was.

The following are a few important things as we wrap up the year and prepare for the next season.

Last Hit Drill and Equipment Turn In
We will go out on the field one last time for the last hit drill and then turn in our equipment. If your son is playing another sport they will only be a few minutes late to that practice.

Championship Game
I will be attending the state title game on December 4 at noon. We may take the bus if we have enough players (parents can go to) are interested. Austin Regents defeated Dallas Lutheran 61 to 42 (Regents was up over 40 at one point) and will play Brook Hill for the Championship.

Fall Sports Banquet
Players will be voting on awards and I will send you the date for the banquet as soon as I know it.

End of Season Party
We will have our annual end of season party in early January. When I have more details I will let you know.

Player Interview
I would like to conducted end of season interviews with all players, including seniors. They usually take about 15 minutes. I will send out more information including some questions I would like players to answer later in the week. This process really helps us to build the program and gage where we are at as we plan for the future.

Hair Cuts
All hair should be returned to normal dress code when your son returns to school on Monday morning.

2011 Season
Spring football will start May 9 with our spring game on Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. The first fall practice for the 2011 season will be on August 1.

Playoff Shirts

Your son will receive a playoff t-shirt after practice today. If you would like to purchase an additional shirt they are $10. Please contact Cindy Wilhite at Cindy.Wilhite@cypresschristian.org with the number and sizes if you are interested in purchasing a shirt. The revenue from shirt sales will help to offset playoff expenses like field rental and transportation.

The shirts are navy with the following design on the front.

Playoff Game Travel

We will be taking a chartered bus to the game and leaving Saturday morning. Your son should be at the field house no later than 7:15 and we will leave at 8 AM. We will be stopping at Old Settlers Park just north of Austin (just west of the intersection of 130 and 79) for lunch. The football program will feed your son Chick fil a for lunch and pizza at the stadium after the game. Depending on the length of the game we should arrive back at the school around 10 PM.

Please have your son in bed no later than 10 PM on Friday night.

Warrior Football Week 12

I am pretty sure that 7 straight wins is a school record. We continue to improve each week and this is certainly the right time of year to be playing our best football. There were a couple of upsets in the first round and you can view the scores and second round match ups at http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=374539&tclass=Division%20III.

As we prepare to play an option team it is important that we know our assignments and execute them every play. Offense is also about execution and in both cases our part can seem minor at times but from the right perspective it might be major. We are working for something greater than ourselves and that requires obedience. All of us certainly have plans for our lives but God sees a bigger picture from a greater perspective and we are called to be obedient to him, even if that means building a boat when we have never seen rain.

Weekly Theme – Obedience

Genesis 7:22 “Noah did everything just as God commanded it.”

Week 12 Schedule
Monday 7:00 AM Film in field house
Monday 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Helmet)
Tuesday 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Wednesday 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Full Pads)
Thursday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell)
Friday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell)
Saturday Game against Dallas Lutheran TBA
The time and location for the game should be worked out Monday morning.

Thanksgiving Practices
If you have conflicts with practices over break please let me know.

Warrior Football Week 11

Another great win on Friday night which makes 6 in a row. I am not sure but that might be a school record. Friday night will be the first round of the playoffs at home at 7:30 against Flower Mound Coram Deo Academy (CDA). CDA finished 3-3 and in 4th place in District 1. It would sure be nice to have a big crowd on Friday so invite some friends.

You can view the complete playoff bracket at http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=374539&tclass=Division%20III. After this week, the remaining playoff games will be played on Saturdays and will be neutral sites. Assuming a Warrior victory our second round game will be played in Fairfield Texas which is close to Grossbeck where we played last year.

We are the favorite and should win on Friday but you only get points for what you do during the game and anything can happen. Regardless of the opponent it is always us verses our best self when we step on the field.

Weekly Theme – Pride

John 3:30 “He must become greater; I must become less.”

Week 11 Schedule
Monday 7:00 AM Film in field house
Monday 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Tuesday 3:45 to 6:00 PM (Full Pads)
Wednesday 3:45 to 5:30 PM (Half Shell)
Thursday 3:45 to 5:15 PM (Half Shell)
Friday Game at home against Coram Deo Academy at 7:30 PM

On Monday and Tuesday we will end practice with film as it will be dark earlier so players will be walking out of the locker room at 6 PM. Juniors will be released by 5:50 on Monday for the Blessing Ceremony.

Scout film is up on the web. Our game film from Friday will be up at some point tomorrow.

Thanksgiving Practices

We are a favorite to make it to the semi final round which would be played the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We would not practice on Thanksgiving Day but will practice throughout the rest of the week. I am tentatively planning to practice from 8:30 to 11:00 AM Monday through Wednesday and from 3:30 to 5:30 on Friday. The game that Saturday would most likely be played in the College Station area.
